The Smith Family is a national children’s education charity that works with children and young people experiencing poverty to overcome their circumstances and reach their full potential by providing holistic, long-term support for their education.
About the role
We are seeking a Girls Coach, Girls at the Centre to provide intensive and holistic support aimed at strengthening social, emotional and academic aspirations for participating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls in Year 7-12. Reporting to the Program Manager Girls at the Centre and working alongside dedicated, energised, and passionate team members, you will:
- Recruit girls and their families to the program
- Organise regular activities in line within program guidelines
- Provide coaching and support to girls to address barriers which may be affecting their educational attainment
- Engage with parents/carers
- Work closely with our partner school staff to ensure participating girls are on track with their goals and to provide wrap around support around attendance, advancement and engagement
About you
As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and develop constructive relationships with young Aboriginal women
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and families
- Experience working in disadvantaged communities and knowledge of community services in Wagga Wagga
- Proficient in MS Office software and internet
- Clear and respectful communicator
- Highly organised and self motivated team player with a flexible approach to problem-solving
- Ability to collect and collate information for project reporting
- Current NSW Drivers licence (and own vehicle) and current NSW working with Children Check
